Dr Karen Neil trained as a Pharamcist before becoming a Mindfulness Teacher. I spoke to her recently to learn more about how mindfulness can help us deal wisely with stress. We discussed the bodily changes that come with stress, and how it affects our thinking and our performance.

We discussed how mindfulness practice can help us to respond rather than react to stress. This diagram shows the different effects of reacting and responding.

We also spoke about how stress can affect our performance using the Yerkes-Dobson curve. Up to a certain point, increased pressure can help us to perform our tasks but beyond this point our performance is negatively affected.

You can learn more about Karen’s work and the courses she runs in Nottingham on her Mindful Medicine website.
